The Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS) is committed to fostering choice, voice, and equity by delivering high-quality public assistance and support services to eligible residents. Guided by Federal and State law, DHS ensures that individuals and families in Rhode Island receive the necessary resources to achieve economic stability, well-being, and self-sufficiency. DHS envisions all Rhode Islanders thriving at home, at work, and in their communities by providing compassionate, responsive, and efficient services. Through a focus on People, Process, Technology, and Communication, DHS continually advances accessibility, innovation, and collaboration to enhance customer experience, strengthen operations, modernize service delivery, and foster public trust.

Responsibilities:
The programs DHS administers include: RI Works; Low-Income Child Care Assistance; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP); Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS); General Public Assistance (GPA); State Supplemental Payment (SSP); Low-Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP); Medicaid; Office of Healthy Aging (OHA); Office of Veterans Services; Offices of Child Support Services (OCSS); and Office of Rehabilitation Services (ORS).
