Established by Rhode Island General Law § 42-11-10, the Council is the central planning agency for Rhode Island. The Council has 27 members representing a variety of interests. Functions are; to adopt the State Guide Plan which contains plans for the physical, economic, and social development of the State, to serve as the state-designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning, and to assist municipalities with land use and comprehensive planning. The Division of Statewide Planning within the Department of Administration staffs the Council. |
