Established by Rhode Island General Law § 42-11-10, the Council is the central planning agency for Rhode Island. The Council has 27 members representing a variety of interests. Functions are; to adopt the State Guide Plan which contains plans for the physical, economic, and social development of the State, to serve as the state designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation planning, and to assist municipalities with land use and comprehensive planning. The Division of Statewide Planning within the Department of Administration staffs the Council. |
