The Commission enforces Rhode Island anti-discrimination laws in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, credit, and delivery of services. The employment and public accommodations statutes prohibit discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, ancestral origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. The employment statute also prohibits an employer from inquiring as to an applicant’s conviction status, with certain exceptions. The credit statute prohibits discrimination on these basis (except conviction status), as well as on the basis of familial status, military status, and marital status. The housing statute prohibits discrimination on all of the aforementioned basis (except conviction status), as well as on the basis of status as a victim of domestic abuse and housing status.
